Marcello started playing in bands and orchestras at age 11, performing at street parties and festivals in Italy. In 1975 he released his first album, Apotheosis, a prog-rock LP. In 1978 Patrick Samson chose him as drummer for his tour. The following year he became the drummer for American born Italian singer Wess Johnson.
